douglas witmer

We are pleased to have Douglas Witmer join us for our seventh edition.

Douglas Witmer combines the basics of painting to achieve far more than basic paintings. Douglas's work has the kind of painterly feel with reductive impulses that make the everyone here at 246 take notice. We think you'll notice it too.

Witmer’s work intuitively combines simple geometric imagery, emphatic color, and subtle manipulation of surface physicality. It is an inquiry into the materiality of seeing, perception, feeling and memory.

Sun Dog is a takes a new approach to production, but with similar results and sensitivities shared by all of Douglas's work. In fact if you were go visit Douglas at his studio in Philadelphia, you would not be able to encounter this work as it's production is purely digital and the artwork will only exist for these editions.

His work has been exhibited internationally. Recent venues include: P.S.1/MoMA, M55 Art, and Minus Space (NYC), Gallery Siano (Philadelphia), The University of Maryland, The University of Dayton (OH), Sydney Non-Objective (Australia), and Bus-Dori Project Space, Tokyo, Japan.

Douglas Witmer was born in Winchester, VA and raised in Lancaster County, PA. He has lived and worked in Philadelphia since 1995.
